"Escape From Bizarro World, Chapter 1"
The dynamic writing team of Geoff Johns and Richard Donner joins artist extraordinaire Eric Powell (The Goon) for "Escape from Bizarro World," a 3-part story that will thrill and horrify!
Last seen in ACTION COMICS #845, Bizarro returns to kidnap one of the most important people in Superman's life. But what does the twisted, ersatz Man of Steel want? The only way to find out is to travel to the enemy's home: Bizarro World!
In the early morning hours at the Kent Farm, Jonathan and Martha are awoken by a noise downstairs. Walking down the stairs, they see a shadow in the dark, wearing a familiar red cape. Thinking it's Clark, they are shocked to discover that it is a hideous version of their adopted sun, Bizarro.
Shortly, Clark, as Superman, has arrived. Martha tells him what happened. The creature grabbed Jonathan, put him in some sort of rocket, and took off. Clark tells her that Bizarro isn't like his other enemies. Pa should be okay. Still worried, she asks if Bizarro has ever killed anyone. Clark has to tell her yes. She tells him that Bizarro called him "father" and mumbled something about a blue sun.
Superman heads to the Fortress of Solitude to speak with the matrix containing his true father, Jor-El. Jor-El can tell that his son is worried about something because his heart is beating faster than normal. Clark tells him what happened to his adoptive father. Jor-El sets the coordinates for the nearest blue sun in the interstellar rocket. He tells Kal-El that he'll need the rocket to bring Jonathan back. The trip will take seventeen hours and he warns him to be careful. The blue sun will also have an effect on his Kryptonian physiology. His powers will be enhanced and it's possible that he may develop new powers. So will Bizarro.
Superman comes across a square planet. Landing he finds poorly written backwards signs warning him that he is not welcome to "Mutroplis." The structure of all the buildings are out of whack. Superman finds a building with a sign that says "Dali Planet." Peering in the dark, he calls out for Bizarro. Superman is soon overcome by a number of bizarro residents telling him he is the world's worst enemy and that they are angry to see him. As they all reach and grab him, it seems they are mistaking him for the actual Bizarro.
The bizarro creatures continue to try to grab at Superman, even punching each other to pieces. Soon, Bizarro-Lois arrives and slaps Superman. She tells him she "loves him." Bizarro-Clark arrives telling Bizarro-Lois that things are okay. Superman is outraged by all of this. Shooting his heat vision at Bizarro-Clark, he demands to know where his father is. Bizarro is not happy since he was in his secret identity. All the bizarros around are shocked to discover that Bizarro-Clark is really Bizarro. They all grab at him calling him the world's worst enemy. To get them off, Bizarro opens his mouth and fire burns them all. Bizarro-Lois runs away and Bizarro turns to angrily face Superman.
Attacking Superman, they end up near a "semitari." Superman asks again where his father is. Bizarro tells him he's dead. Superman asks if that means that he's not. Bizarro says no. Superman is becoming angry with Bizarro.
The police arrive to arrest Bizarro and he shoots fire at them. Superman tries to stop him from killing them and is thrown down. Bizarro looks at Superman and shoots blue beams out of his eyes. More Bizarro's begin to cling on Superman. His vision is creating more. Soon, Superman is overwhelmed by the numerous Bizarros. They wrap his face in his cape and he eventually passes out.
Superman has a flashback to when he was young and was just discovering his powers. Sitting on top of a water silo, Jonathan climbs up to ask what he's doing. Young Clark tells him he's watching some boys play football way off in the distance. He has developed telescopic vision. He wishes he could play with them. He tells his father he'd be careful but Jonathan reminds him what happened with Pete. His arm was broken. Clark tells him it isn't just about playing football. He wants to fit in. Jonathan manages to distract him by suggesting he check out the neighboring farm. One of the pigs has escaped and Clark begins laughing.
Superman is thrown down on the ground of what appears to be Bizarro's fortress. Jonathan is held captive and sees his son. Bizarro tells him he needs help to destroy Bizarro World.
